Dixon Lane Meadowcreek
Overview
This birding hotspot in Bishop boasts more than 250 bird species seen over the years
The path runs along a creek/drainage which is very appealing to woodpeckers, flycatchers, hawks, and owls.
Beginning in a stand of cottonwoods, this trail makes its way to a shallow pond where herons and shorebirds can be found.
How do I get there?
From 395, turn onto Brockman Lane, then right onto Dixon Lane. There is plenty of parking along the shoulders of the road. Click this link for Google Maps directions.
How long is the walk?
This path can go out and back for about 2 miles without any elevation gain or loss. It’s a bit exposed after the cottonwoods, so it can get hot! Bring a hat, sunscreen, and water.

Is it dog friendly?
Yes! It is an on-leash optional area, though many folks with well-behaved dogs will allow them off-leash, especially if it is hot so their dog can cool off in the creek.
What birds will we see?
April is a great time to visit this hotspot. The Great-horned Owls are nesting (we may hear them hooting sleepily), and many smaller birds are building nests and laying eggs!
